The Best of ASTRO Philippines was the first BOA Course in Southeast Asia held last March 24-25, 2017 at the Manila Diamond Hotel.
It was well-attended with a total of 204 participants. This was composed by mostly physicians both local (104) and international (7) from neighboring Southeast Asian countries, namely Malaysia, Thailand, Myanmar and Cambodia followed by 54 medical physicists , 26 radiologic technologists , 11 nurses and two laymen.
There were eight resource speakers wherein four of them were from the American Society of Radiation Oncology (ASTRO) in the persons of Drs. Zhongxing Liao and Arnold Paulino, both from the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas, Dr. Bin Teh of Houston Methodist Hospital and Dr. Kenneth Hu of NYU Langone Medical Center. The other half were local speakers: Drs. Teresa Sy Ortin and Gaudencio Vega, both radiation oncologists, and Mrs. Lilian Rodriguez and Mr. Julius Cezar P. Rojales, both medical physicists. The scientific program focused on the highly-rated abstracts presented in the recently concluded 2016 Best of ASTRO held in Florida, USA last November 11-12, 2016 encompassing topics on Breast, Lung, Central Nervous System, Head and Neck, Gastrointestinal, Genitourinary, Gynecologic, Palliative Care, Biology, Physics and Patient Safety.
